Walking from work, one Sunday afternoon
A bullhorn preacher said “Your time is coming soon!
Its in the word of God, a trumpet shall resound.
Amazing grace! All who are lost shall yet be found.
This means the end my son; The Truth never lies.
This means the time has come to sever all your ties.
You can admonish me, but still I say:
This is the end, and soon this world will pass away.”
Watching French movies with my love, we sat downstairs.
This tender hobby was a thing I’m glad we shared.
But when it ended, a word came on the screen.
I said “My Dear, I want to know what this word means.”
“This means the end my friend, the word reads fine,
and yet holds meaning, that which I cannot define.
The film is over now, find someone else to do.
This is the end, it’s ‘fin’. It’s sad, but it is true.”
I felt true love then, but passion fades away.
Now our relationship is starting to decay.
I sit and listen, I knew this couldn’t last.
I can’t ignite a love diminished to the past.
“This means the end my love, just go before I cry.
This means the time has come to give our last goodbye.
Don’t make this harder, Dear, than what it has to be.
This is the end of us, there’s just a you, and me.”
All I remember in this hazy state of mind,
there was a struggle, and my breath I could not find.
I lay here hopeless, my life is winding down.
I have my family here, they’re standing all around.
“This is the end my kin, your time has almost come.
This is the end of pain, and now we’ll keep you numb.
Just try to rest awhile, the knife went very deep.
This is the end for you, go to eternal sleep.”
I’m fading quickly, but my mind is thanking God.
For what He gave me, as my head begins to nod.
Amazing grace, my heart is filled with joy abound!
And at the curtain call I hear the trumpet sound.
“You’ve made it home my Son, just rest your weary head.
You’ve made it back to me, and now we’ll break the bread.
Hark! Hear the angel band, with Earth you are now done.
So welcome home my Son, we’ve only just begun.”
