A Firelight Resolution

In firelight, I almost feel your heat.
When plasma vapor breaks against my skin
I almost flinch away in pain. My feet
stay planted to the ground. And when the wind
picks up, I’ll have no fear, though I may flap
my arms, as if to tear at you. My time
is up. You’ll break me down, my heart, my sap,
my life will tend your wanton flame so climb
upon my back and do the God damned thing!

Resolved: A living ember I become.
My crash, like thunder peals, is cause to sing
a phoenix from the charring Alder stump.

You cast my carbon carcass to the ground.
I felt like Hell that time you came around.
