Written in senior year of HS. It was originally supposed to be about a cop walking a beat who dies while saving someone from harm. But as with many things it kind of took on a life of its own and went in another direction. I wrote it as a song, but the way I put it to music was repetitive and uninspired. So I think it works better as poetry.

Ode to a Beautiful Man
Written in the early years of HS, about my friend Caleb, who has a genetic disorder which makes him very fair and fragile. He’s a very humble, funny, and God-fearing man. I have so much respect for him.
A Certain Monkey
Again 7th grade. Written in study hall, and my friends gassed me up about it at lunch. Such a stupid poem… lol
Blind Victory
Had to be 7th grade or before. It was perhaps the first time I ever sat down to write a poem that wasn’t silly or whimsical. My mom made me submit it to a poetry contest. It didn’t win of course, but I got a letter saying it made it at least a few rounds…
