Fortune in the Vine

Short story written for creative writing in my junior year of college. About a quirky guy who meets a girl in a movie theater.

The second half is much better than the first half. I might do more revisions on this in the future.

Ode to a Rustic Trombone

Creative Writing poetry assignment 2 was to write an ode. I chose the title first, which is funny because it’s bordering on profane, and I just went for it. Trombones are pretty cool I guess… But I’m not as excited about them as the poem makes out.

Still Not Dead

After playing through the video game Portal, I got inspired by the song in the ending credits. I thought it was great, and really rounded out the video game. At the same time I was trying to learn how to use Guitar Pro 5. So I mapped this song into GP at first, and then I started adding my own tracks. So skip to about halfway through unless you just want to hear the Portal song in MIDI for 2 minutes.

Music

Shine on you Crazy Fractal

One summer while I was in college, I was really into Pink Floyd, and had been studying fractal zooms, specifically on the Mandelbrot set. I was able to dub Pink Floyd’s Shine on you Crazy Diamond (VI-IX) onto one, and got lots of synchronicities. Worth a watch!

Rain

One day I decided to sit down and write a song. I vaguely remember being inspired by Blind Melon’s No Rain, and discontent because I hadn’t written a song in a while. So I wrote & recorded this all in a few hours.

This is the End

Written in senior year of HS. It was originally supposed to be about a cop walking a beat who dies while saving someone from harm. But as with many things it kind of took on a life of its own and went in another direction. I wrote it as a song, but the way I put it to music was repetitive and uninspired. So I think it works better as poetry.

Remember

Written for the Castle HS talent show 2009. My senior year I did a ukulele comedy bit with my friend Phil Hassman. While the judges were deliberating we performed this song to the excitement of the seniors in the audience who got all the inside jokes, and the teachers I gave a S/O to.

D.O.G.

I wrote this song which I performed (ukulele) with Sam Wake (acoustic guitar) at the wedding of Johnathan Weir & Hannah Martin circa 2007
