If I Were a Dragon

If I were a dragon, I’d burn down my home
I’d waylay the structure with plasma and foam
I’d watch as it burned with a burdensome sight
Knowing smouldering rubble’s my trouble alone

If I were a dragon, all hope would be gone
I’d chuff at the particles darkling the dawn
Reflecting on burning internal delight
As the agony drags my destruction along

If I were a dragon, a token I’d take
In every place where I made a mistake
I’d pile them all to a terrible height
Remember and treasure the problems I make

If I were a dragon, I’d glide on my wings
Descend to the deepest and darkest of things
In caverns I can’t tell the day from the night
So my senses dismiss what consistency brings

If I were a dragon, I’d brood round the clock
I’d hide deep inside of my igneous rock
In solitude lay on the cold diorite
Of the cave that I made with the heat of my talk

If I were a dragon, I’d kill what I see
With my claws and my teeth and my fire, all three
With scratches I’ll break you; you’ll die by my bite
Then you’ll be reduced to an ember like me
